For me, counselling is about offering you a safe space to get to the heart of what is troubling you. It is a talking therapy. You can take your time and unpack what’s going on. There is no judgement, only a willingness to listen with a curious mind. I will try to walk alongside you to understand your experience: Listening and reflecting with you on what might be happening.

You are not alone. Many of us experience difficult times when we feel overwhelmed or unable to really cope. I say really cope because often we can do a really good job of convincing the rest of the world and ourselves, we are fine. It can be daunting to talk about feelings, emotions. It can be painful to try and live in the present. The past may have been a nightmare for you. Perhaps you have negative beliefs or behaviours you would like to work on changing.

As an integrative, humanistic counsellor I work alongside you. I am guided by what you want to talk about. As an integrative counsellor I can bring different ways of looking at things, new perspectives to work from. As a humanistic counsellor I believe we all have it in ourselves to become the best we can be. I believe we can change and grow.

Some things may feel too hard to bring to counselling. I will never insist you go to a place you don’t want to go to. In fact, when working with traumatic events it is not necessary to revisit or relive the experience. The emphasis is on how to work safely around the experience of trauma. My focus is on how trauma affects you today and what you can do to improve your life now.

Some things may feel too personal or too embarrassing to talk about. Counsellors are humans too and subject to the same events, regrets, mistakes and losses. We can look at the future and feel unsure what to do. We can sit and know that something isn't quite right and not be able to express it for a while. We have counselling too. Counselling is confidential within legal and safeguarding limits. Anything you want to talk about is important and deserves to be heard.

The British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists, or BACP is my professional, governing body. They require members to adhere to and uphold strict Ethical Guidelines. They require all counsellors to have Supervision.

You are welcome to call me to talk about how we might work together. It will be good to meet you.

If you have clicked on this page you may be thinking about counselling for yourself or a loved one. You have made a good start. Even if I turn out not to be the counsellor for you, I can hand on heart say that counselling is worth it.

However, there are no magic bullets. It can feel like hard work but the results can be very worth it indeed.

The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy is my professional body. You can look me up on the register or look for other therapists. You will find more information about counselling and what it can help with.
